Tesamorelin is a synthetic 44-amino acid peptide analog of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH 1-44), modified with an N-terminal trans-3-hexenoyl group for enhanced stability.
It was developed by Theratechnologies Inc. (Montreal, Canada) in the late 1990s (internal code TH9507), with FDA approval granted in 2010 under the brand name Egrifta.
Researchers have investigated Tesamorelin in preclinical and clinical models for its ability to stimulate endogenous growth hormone release from the pituitary.
Primary areas of study include the reduction of excess visceral abdominal fat in HIV-associated lipodystrophy, as well as exploratory research on body composition, metabolic parameters, and growth hormone deficiency-related conditions.
