TB-500 is a synthetic 7-amino acid heptapeptide (Ac-LKKTETQ) that corresponds to the active actin-binding fragment of thymosin beta-4 (amino acids 17-23).

It was developed in the early 2000s as a research analog of thymosin beta-4 (originally isolated in the 1960s). Key advancement and investigation occurred through biotech research, notably by RegeneRx Biopharmaceuticals in their work on thymosin beta-4 derivatives.

Researchers have investigated TB-500 in preclinical models for its potential effects on cell migration, actin sequestration, angiogenesis, and tissue regeneration. 

Primary areas of study include wound healing, muscle and tendon repair, reduction of inflammation, cardiovascular tissue recovery, and overall soft tissue injury models.
