BPC-157 is a synthetic 15-amino acid peptide (pentadecapeptide) derived from a protective protein found in human gastric juice.
It was discovered and developed in the early 1990s by researchers led by Prof. Predrag Sikiric at the University of Zagreb, Croatia, with further development and licensing involving Pliva (a Croatian pharmaceutical company).
Researchers have investigated BPC-157 in preclinical (primarily animal) studies for its potential cytoprotective, anti-inflammatory, and tissue-regenerative effects.
Areas of exploration have included gastrointestinal tract healing (such as ulcers and inflammatory bowel conditions), musculoskeletal injury recovery (tendons, ligaments, muscles), wound healing, and organ protection.
